DANZA&DANZA International  |  November/December
At the 2022 Venice Biennale Danza, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement wento to Saburo Teshigawara, who is our cover star for this last issue of the year. The Japanese dancer, choreographer and visual artist is a master of sensory experience and poetry. Teshigawara is returning to Italian theatres with existing works that have never been shown in this country. Meanwhile, his creative impulse seems unstoppable, as he works towards new challenges.
Hoes does one became a dance dramaturg? What are the feature of a professional figure that is increasingly in demand to support choreopgrahers? We met Uzma Hameed, a dramaturg and kathak dancer, and long-time collaborator of Wayne McGregor in London. Based on her experience, we put together a profile of this vital member of any creative team.
Ballet lovers will find two special interviews in this issue with two Principals: one is Luisa Ieluzzi, who a few months ago reached the highetst status at the San Carlo Theatre Ballet in Naples; the other, Marcelino Sambé, the Portuguese dancer who rose up the ranks at the Royal Ballet, but who remains as committed as ever to introducing the youngest and less fortunate members of society to dance and ballet. We also have an interview with Gisèle Vienne, the corss-disciplinary artist, present-day philosopher, and creator of transversal, disenchanted works.
