Coast  |  Seaside fun for free
Sometimes things just work out; a little bit of serendipity goes
a long way. I’m happy to say that on last month’s sunniest
day I was on the coast instead of in the office. I had travelled to
Dorset to interview sculptor Rebecca Newnham, and when she
suggested lunch at her beach hut, I couldn’t refuse! We took a
ferry to the sandy spit where her hut sits, and, as we watched
children playing in the shallows and boats pootling by, I knew that at that
moment there was nowhere in the world better than this. Rebecca and her
photographer husband, David, are the kind of people I love to meet: creative,
inspirational and thoughtful. They left London for a life near the sea when
they started a family and you can read their story on page 70. For more
ideas on starting a new life by the sea turn to page 88 to discover how
Sarah and Neythan Hayes renovated a rundown pub in Cornwall.
The school holidays are nearly here and many people are wondering
what to do on a tight budget, so coast writer Alex Reece has come up
with 10 wonderful coastal activities around the country that you can enjoy
for free. If you have ideas to add to this list, please let us know!
