Did you know that not all amaretto brands actually contain almonds, even though it’s a classic Italian almond liqueur? That’s not the case with Adriatico Amaretto, a brand that’s new to the UK this summer and is made from real Italian almonds and 100% natural ingredients from Puglia. The almonds are handpicked from the Italian countryside, then roasted before being macerated and distilled. The roasted amaretto is blended with cinnamon, cocoa and coffee before a pinch of sea salt from the sea flats next to the Adriatic Sea is added, hence the name Adriatico. Adriatico Bianco (White) is an alternative to the traditional amaretto, made from chopped and soaked white almonds, creating a silky liqueur with vanilla notes, and despite its milky white colour, it contains no milk. Both varieties are vegan and gluten-free, and cost £28.99 for 70cl. They are available from Amazon, Harvey Nichols and The Drinks Shop.
