B ased in San Francisco, Sam Lazarus started his career at GoPro in 2011. After helping to grow the content team there into a global, 120+ person media powerhouse, he left to pursue a Masters in VFX Dynamics and started working in freelance mograph. While working freelance, Lazarus bought a Rokoko mocap suit and fell in love with motion capture. Now he works as the creative director and chief evangelist for Rokoko and creates content in a wide range of CG software packages. Here Lazarus breaks down a typical working day, and answers our questions about his career journey.
08:00am If I’m lucky, the first thing I’ll do in the morning is to check the results of the prior night’s render. I try to use every moment of potential render time from my machine – there is nothing quite like the euphoria of finally getting to play a 12+ hour render. After that, I’ll usually check my email and sketch out what I’m trying to accomplish that day. Things often change, but I find it helps to have an initial goal, even if you end up deviating from that goal over the course of the day.
