AIRASIA X will merge with fellow Malaysian carrier AirAsia after entering into a non-binding letter of acceptance with Capital A “for the proposed acquisitions of its aviation businesses.” The acquisition will see AirAsia X acquire AirAsia airlines in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia to create a single AirAsia Aviation Group. The merger is hoped to “provide unparalleled advantages, including a strengthened market position, increased operational efficiency, and ultimately driving cost savings and enhanced financial performance” for both companies.
However, initial plans to complete the merger may have hit turbulence due to financial issues with Thai AirAsia X.
