The European Courts of Justice (ECJ) has ruled the actual arrival time of a flight corresponds to the time at which at least one of the doors of the aircraft is opened. Answering a question from Lufthansa's low-cost subsidiary Germanwings, the ECJ ruling could have a dramatic effect on airlines. On average, the time from landing to opening the doors can be anything from 20 minutes upwards, potentially leaving carriers liable to hefty compensation payments to passengers for delayed flights.
GKN Aerospace has agreed a major risk and revenue sharing partnership with Pratt & Whitney covering key components for the PurePower PW1900 Geared Turbofan engine which will power Embraer’s new 190-E2 and 195-E2 regional jets. GKN Aerospace will take a 7% share in the engine programme with the company manufacturing components at its Swedish, Norwegian and Connecticut facilities, starting in early 2015.
East Midlands, UK-based component and spares supplier KG Aircraft Rotables has completed the acquisition of a CFM56-5B4-powered Airbus A320-214. The former Vietnam Airlines example, N859AC (c/n 619, ex VN-A308), was flown to St Athan, near Cardiff, in early August and is being parted out by local firm eCube Solutions.
