A combination of natural and artificial light phenomena are behind this jaw-dropping image of a lunar halo – the Moon being the bright circle in the centre. The optical phenomenon was obtained in the sky above the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile on a cloudy day at the Paranal Observatory.
