TERRITORIAL Army (TA) officers are touring Argyll and the islands this month as part of an autumn recruitment drive - and have taken their regimental mascot with them to spread the word. Shetland pony Cruachan IV, mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and previously the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, was with members of the 51st Highland battalion (7 Scots) last Thursday in the Lochgilphead drill hall, where they announced recruitment days to be held in the town, on Thursday and Friday September 15 and 16.
Warrant officer Lachie McDowall said: ‘We are trying to raise awareness of what we do, and generate interest in the TA in an area where numbers have waned in recent years, but where there was a lot of interest in the past in the platoon, from here in Mid Argyll and into Kintyre.
