AW – Athletics Weekly Magazine

September 2026 The new issue of AW (released on September 4) focuses on some of the star names who stood out across the Commonwealth Games and European Championships this summer. None shone brighter than Amy Hunt, who won no fewer than four sprint gold medals in Birmingham. Her coach, Marco Airale, talks through the ups and downs of the past few months and explains why the world 200m silver medallist is only going to get faster. Georgia Hunter Bell has won every major championship final she has contested this year, and in an exclusive interview the World Indoor, Commonwealth and European champion discusses how she has seized her second chance in the sport and is planning to tackle the 800m/1500m double in the near future. The women’s 800m final was one of the most hotly anticipated races of the European Championships and we also look at how it was just the first chapter of a major rivalry between Audrey Werro, Keely Hodgkinson, Femke Broeders-Bol – and others – that appears set to run and run. Another, already well established, rivalry is about to be renewed. Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s return after a lengthy injury got the world talking, underlining his ability to accept the risk of laying it all on the line, and he didn’t take long to start goading Josh Kerr. The pair will meet over 1500m at World Athletics’ new Ultimate Championship and we speak to some of the Scot’s Brooks Beasts team-mates to build a picture of the methods that helped him break the mile world record, as well as landing Commonwealth gold on home soil in Glasgow. Rose Davies, Adaejah Hodge and Devynne Charlton also impressed at the Commonwealth Games and there are interviews with each, plus columnist Katharine Merry gives her thoughts on the championship summer and Verity Ockenden explains why more care needs to be taken around athletes who are returning to action. Elsewhere Rob Walker reports on the World U20 Championships and Gavin Pavey is the subject of our coaching conversations.
