A problem shared
Got a problem? DR RANJ SINGH and WAYNE DHESI are here to offer their advice…
I’ve been with my boyfriend for 18 months, having met him at university.
We’ve now graduated and have both found jobs in London. As neither of us are from London originally, he’s suggesting we move in together to save money on rent. I’ve never lived with a partner before and am scared I’ll miss having my own space. I’m also worried about taking such a big step and regretting it later, but I don’t want him to feel as if I’m having doubts about the relationship. Help!
NEIL, TAUNTON
WAYNE: It’s an undeniable fact that the cost of rent in London is ridiculous. I share a two-bedroom flat with a mate and pay double what I did when I had my own place back home in the Midlands. Many people I know spend around half of their salary on rent.
You say that your boyfriend has suggested that you move in together to save money on rent. If this is the only reason he’s given, it’s worth sitting down and having more of a chat — especially as you have concerns because you’ve never lived with a partner before. It is a big step and one that you should only take if you’re happy to give it a go.
