ClassPass launched in 2013 and revolutionised the fitness industry, making it easier and cheaper to book classes. It now operates in 28 countries with the UK and Ireland operations managed by Will Brereton. He has his work cut out for him, with 40,000 classes being offered across the UK every week, and London fast catching up with New York as its busiest city.
When and how did you discover your passion for fitness? In New Zealand everyone is very active, so growing up I always had rugby in the winter and surf-lifesaving in the summer, as well as athletics and swimming all year round. I always tried hard but I was pretty rubbish at all of them and was quite overweight in my teens. When I went to university aged 18, I started taking group fitness classes. I fell in love with moving to music, and for the first time in my life I was good at something sporty. In my first class the instructor came up to me and said I should teach. By the end of that year I was delivering classes to hundreds of people at the top gym in Christchurch and was loving every minute of it. There was a group of gay guys who worked at that gym who helped me through my coming out and are still my BFFs today.
