Cycling has received a bit of a bad rep, with news of crashes and theft reaching us daily, which discourages many of us from strapping on our helmets, tying our laces, and setting off on two wheels. But if you’re fed up with sitting in traffic jams, waiting for the tube or running for buses, we strongly urge you to reconsider the faithful bike. Not only will you save your pennies on the endless list of expenses – Oyster, MOTs, train tickets – you’ll be saving the planet, too. Plus, riding a bike can be surprisingly liberating.
So, if you have been playing with the idea of investing in an eco-friendly method of transport (and an electric car is a little out of your price range), but a bike seems a little intimidating, we’re here to help. Jenni Gwiazdowski, cycling advocate and founder of the London Bike Kitchen, tells us how you can feel more confident on two wheels, encouraging you to take life by the handlebars.
“We do offer to do repairs, but we prefer to encourage people to learn how to do it on their own”
