I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that there is always one weekend of the year, each year, that stands out as being the busiest; one that is chock full of classic car events, so much so that you’re generally torn and can’t decide which is the best one to go to. Well, I reckon last weekend (July 13/14) was certainly the busiest weekend of the year so far. The entire Classic Car Buyer team
was out and about: Jack Grover and John-Joe Vollans attended what turned out to be the best Goodwood Festival of Speed yet. With this prestigious event reaching its 20th running, organisers pulled out all the stops to ensure it wowed the crowds with some of the rarest, most expensive and race-proven machinery on the planet. Meanwhile, Iain Wakefield was at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, which itself has organised a bigger-than-ever bumper calendar of events for 2013, where 100 years of Morris motors was being celebrated, with an example from each decade of production – Bullnose right through to Ital. Meanwhile, I attended the MG Owners’ Club’s 40th anniversary event, held in the showground next to its headquarters in the village of Swavesey. From humble beginnings the Club has become one of the biggest in the country, with a worldwide membership of 25,000. If fact, there was so much going on that we couldn’t fit it all into this issue: Peter Simpson attended the Mid Lincs Rover Club Rally at East Kirkby, but because we only have
so much space his report on this well-attended event will need to wait until next week – sorry about that! As for what else is in this issue, Ian Cushway offers both his buying and owning tips for the
archetypal classic sports car and all-round DIY-friendly machine that is the MGB, plus a closer look at an all-together different machine – the Ford Mustang. Readers who’d like to learn more about the ’Stang should see page 12 for details of a CCB exclusive deal to get a free passenger ride at Brands Hatch next month.
