Copycat AI tool impersonating ChatGPT
Keumars Afifi-Sabet puts the boot into tech villains, jargon-spouting companies and software trying to trick you

hatGPT is being paid the ultimate compliment – a wave of awful copycat apps that try to trick people into using them. I spotted this one when I searched for the AI tool on the Google Play Store.
It returned ChatGPT as I expected ( 1 in our screenshot right), but my eye was drawn first to a ‘sponsored’ app above called ‘Chatbot AI’, with a suspiciously similar logo 2 . It’s clearly designed to catch out people who don’t quite know what they’re searching for, but have a vague sense that it begins with ‘Chat’ and has a logo that looks like a futuristic type of pasta.
