Touchscreens
What are they?
Touchscreens are panels that let you interact directly with what’s on screen by touching it with a finger, stylus or other object.
How do they work?
Most touchscreens are capacitive, meaning they have a transparent conductor between the screen’s surface and the pixels below that uses the conductive properties of human skin to detect whether the surface is being touched. There are also resistive touchscreens on printers and sat-navs that aren’t as sensitive or responsive. These require you to apply more pressure to the screen’s surface, which then bends to make a connection with another layer below. These screens can’t detect more nuanced gestures such as swipes.
