PROBLEM OF THE FORTNIGHT
Can I connect my retro computer to a modern TV?
Q Having owned several computers when I was younger, I recently bought an old Atari ST PC bundled with a few games. I was rather fond of my ST years ago, so this was just for nostalgic reasons. It’s now been delivered but when I plugged it in I realised it won't fit any of the connections on the back of my various TVs (d’oh!).
I have looked on places like eBay and Amazon but none of the results I’ve found are very clear about what I need and, if I’m honest, I found it all a bit confusing as to which lead or connection is required.
Could you point me in the right direction? I can’t wait to get stuck into the classic Dungeon Master game again, so I’m really hoping you can help!

A Technology marches ever onwards so the problem of older gadgets not working with newer devices is a perennial one. Though there isn’t always an easy solution, it’s usually possible to string together a solution to connect a retro computer to a modern TV using a series of cables and adapters.
We think your question will be of wider interest to owners of other retro systems, so we’ll talk in both general and specific terms.
Now, specifically with your Atari ST, it’s important to understand that there are several different models. These could output to a traditional (RF/UHF) TV or an RGB monitor – or both. So, the first step is to determine exactly which model you’ve bought. If you’re not sure, the information should be displayed on the serial-number sticker on the machine’s underside.
