We start the New Year with one of the most exciting artists working today: Hofesh Shechter. The multifaceted Shechter will present his “Orphée et Eurydice” at La Scala Theatre in February; an opera involving dancers from his company which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. In the interview projects and poetics are discussed as well as his experiences.
Also in this issue we take a look at the Bolshoi Ballet’s legendary couple Maria Alexandrova and Vladislav Lantratov, in love on and off stage.
Johannes Öhman is the “director reflects” of the issue. He was in the middle of moving from the Royal Swedish Ballet, which he’s led for six years, to the Statsballett Berlin where he will officially take up his position from September 2018. We talk to him about tradition and modernity in a Corps de Ballet.
We also explore the career of Angelo Greco, talented Italian artist, who’s spread his wings and flown to California for a new experience abroad where he’s now Principal dancer at the San Francisco Ballet. The bicentenary of Marius Petipa’s birth offers an opportunity to reinstate his figure on all levels, with an in-depth study of his personal history as well as his artistic career.
