Palaeontologist Dr David Hone has a bone to pick with Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974).
Invasion of the Dinosaurs is a curious beast. Despite its title (which was abbreviated to simply Invasion on Part One) the creatures brought forward in time are not an invading force. The dinosaurs encountered by the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) are briefly kidnapped by the sinister Operation Golden Age and used to force the evacuation of modern-day London.
Here was an ambitious story that relied on the quality of its visual effects. Most critics feel that these episodes were let down in that department, to put it mildly. Which is a pity, because at the foundation of Invasion of the Dinosaurs is probably the finest script Malcolm Hulke ever wrote for Doctor Who.
