TAKE THE PLUNGE IN SCOTLAND
The village of Arisaig is the well-earned‘hot’ new destination for wild swimming specialists SwimQuest. Set on the sheltered shore of Loch nan Ceall on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, it’s overlooked by craggy mountains and boasts sandy white temperatures a bracing 4-8˚C. You swim beaches with the deepest freshwater in the British Isles. Cosy accommodation arranged at nearby Traigh House sleeps 16 swimmers, who enjoy well-earned home-cooked grub and roaring log fires after each day’s refreshing dip. The scenery is stunning and the water up to 1km a day, but far less if you’re a beginner, and you aren’t rejected if you choose to slip into a wetsuit! The location is suitable for beginners and more advanced swimmers, but it’s useful to have acclimatised to cold water before rocking up if you’re braving it in your swimsuit. You’re always escorted by swim guides in either a boat, kayak or alongside you in the water so you can relax and enjoy the surroundings as well as picking up technique tips. The atmosphere is fun, not competitive, and you can expect to come away with bucket-loads of confidence and a new-found love of wild swimming.
