WHO RUNS THE WORLD?
Not just girls, but British girls, it seems. Data from fitness tracking app Strava shows that the UK is a world-beater when it comes to run commuting. Last year we ditched packed trains and trundling buses in favour of running shoes, and logged an impressive 4.6 million runs to work. Year-on-year, our run commuting habits shot up by more than 50 per cent and between us we saved 9.7 million tonnes of carbon. Spring is the perfect time to join in (our most active day in 2018 was Tuesday 15 May), with lighter evenings and warmer temperatures. And it’s not just for those who live close to their workplace, either. You can incorporate a run by parking a couple of miles away from the office, or getting off the train a stop or two early to run the rest of the way. Prep is key. Plan your route, write a checklist so you never forget essentials like your bra or deodorant, leave a towel, clean clothes and toiletries at work, and if you tend to end up roasting post-run, treat yourself to a desk fan.
