If you want to up your activity levels, going for a walk could hold the key. US researchers asked desk bods to swap just one seated meeting per week to a walking one, and they increased physical activity levels by more than eight per cent. That’s not insignificant, given that Taiwanese research has previously found that just 15 minutes a day of brisk walking can increase life expectancy by three years, and US researchers have found a mere 10 minutes daily significantly improves quality of life, vitality and emotional wellbeing. Forget fighting to book the meeting room, walk and talk instead. And if you aren’t an office-bound screen junkie, apply the same principle to your spare time, and take a weekly stroll with friends, relatives or your partner. Hopefully, somewhere as lovely as this.
