The new triathlon: no wetsuit required

Who says triathlon has to be swim, cycle, run? You can’t move right now for trendy London gyms launching their take on Urban Tri classes, combining three different land-loving, city-friendly sports. East London spin studio Boom Cycle mix boxing, a 10K run and a spin session; Yotopia in central London combine 45 minutes of hot yoga with a three-mile run and an eight-mile spin. Where these uber-cool studios lead, the rest will follow but, while you wait, you can create your own Urban Tri. Combine classes at your gym – an early morning Body Pump, followed by a circular run back to the gym for a spin session. Not a gym bod? Mix workout DVDs or apps at home or in the park with runs and cycle rides. Just team up three activities and ideally make two of them running, cycling or swimming. The combinations are endless, and it’s a fun way to keep mixing up your exercise regime. Competitive types can challenge friends and compare results via apps such as Strava (free, iTunes and Google Play), too.
