A mix of neutral textures is my décor secret

When Laura Goble finally found her dream house, it was engulfed in 1970s furnishings – but even then she could see its hidden charm

Living room

‘The living room is a light and airy room with a large bay window overlooking the front garden, and my vision was for a very calm, relaxed space with lots of cushions, throws and vintage pieces. We started by removing the electric fire and replacing it with a cast iron fireplace to create a central feature. My husband then built the shelves and cupboard in the alcove with panelling at the back – it took him two weekends and is just perfect!’

Welcome to my home

A bit about me

I’m Laura Goble and I’m married to Richard. We have a one-yearold son, Arthur.

Where I live

Our home is a 1930s semi-detached house with two bedrooms. We moved here five years ago.

What I wanted to change

The house hadn’t been touched since the late 1970s; it had brown carpet throughout, an avocado bathroom suite and no central heating. What I did have, though, was plenty of charm.

How I made it my own

I’ve given our home a relaxed, informal feeling with lots of neutral shades and different textures.

My favourite part

I absolutely love our bedroom; it turned out just how I imagined it would and is such a calming space to be at the end of the day.

‘My favourite colours are soft dusky pinks, raspberry reds and oatmeal – you can never have too many cushions in those hues’
