This issue we spend time with Tower Of Power groove provider David Garibaldi, who gives us an insight into life playing with one of the planets funkiest bands as well as his recent induction into the PASIC hall of fame. Elsewhere we also speak to multi-percussionist Joby Burgess, whose long and eclectic career has seen him work with a diverse range of artists including Peter Gabriel, Steve Reich and Powerplant to name but a few. Jack Carrack joins us to discuss his role on his famous fathers latest release as well as how playing solely for the song led to his dad employing two drummers in his touring band. Emeli Sandé’s drummer of choice Jonathan Tuitt lifts the lid on life with one of the biggest current stars on the UK music scene, while Vijay Mistry, the man tasked with providing the energy for The Kaiser Cheifs live shows, talks candidly about his role in the band.
We also have a very special interview with none other than Police legend Stewart Copeland, as well as a preview of this years biggest UK musical festivals in our 2013 Festival Guide, giving you the inside track on who’s playing where and when as well as getting some nuggets of information from a range of drummers as to their experiences when playing festival shows.
Gear-wise, we take an exclusive look at a very desirable new snare drum from DW’s highly regarded Collectors Series in the form of their new Thin Aluminium Shelled model. Elsewhere we spend time with a trio of very tasty Meinl Artisan Edition cajóns, a selection of Regal Tip brushes, some small-but-perfectly formed earplugs from Pro Guard, a set of timbales courtesy of Rhythm Tech and Meinl’s Turbo Crasher, a perfect kit add-on to broaden your percussive palette.
Alongside all of this we also have our usual mix of tuition, features, gig reviews and news, including a very special announcement about this years London Drum Show.
