WITH the rise of the far right across Europe, the election of Donald Trump as President of the USA and UKIP aiming to replace Labour as the authentic voice of working class communities in the North of England, a new play - ‘Dare Devil Rides To Jarama’ - is a timely reminder that there is only a hair’s breadth between socalled right-wing ‘populism’ and outright fascism.

The play, commissioned by the International Brigade Memorial Trust and supported by a number of trade unions including Unite, Aslef, GMB, NASUWT and the FBU, returns to Scotland in early March after wowing audiences and critics all over the UK in the autumn.

Dare Devil tells the true story of how working-class Oldham-born blacksmith, speedway star and ‘Wall of Death’ rider Clem Beckett formed an unlikely friendship with middle-class Londoner Christopher Caudwell, a literary critic, poet and aeronautical expert.
