The Raspberry Pi 5 is already a speed demon, but there are ways and means to squeeze even more performance from it, and in this tutorial we will be doing just that. We’ll be swapping our microSD storage for a PCIe 3.0based NVMe M.2 SSD for around £40, but that will be the only cost. After that, all the upgrades are free. They just require a little work. We’ll be overclocking the CPU to get some extra free performance, and changing the RAM timings to get the most from them. Finally we shall be enabling a means for the Pi CPU and RAM to work better together. Best of all, this is already set in the kernel; we just need to activate it.
As ever, take care. We’re pushing the Raspberry Pi 5 a little harder than its makers would like, so ensure you make backups of any work, and have adequate cooling for your Raspberry Pi 5. You also need the official Raspberry Pi 5 27W power supply because it provides more than enough power for our overclocking.
