Britain’s first gin hotel, the Distillery in Notting Hill, is expanding its mission to include that most maligned spirit – tequila. Along with Mexican producers Herradura, it’s now running the Agave Sessions, a tutored tasting that immerses guests in the production, history and various delights of the country’s mezcal. Over an afernoon, punters will snif and sip their way into a full understanding of the spirit, hearing tales of its intriguing development and the characters that made it famous as they go. Once their education is complete – as students leave clutching a bottle of tequila to take home and an oak barrel in which to age it – one thing is certain: they’ll never order a shot with salt and lemon again (£100, including four cocktails, excellent Mexican food, tastings, a bottle of Herradura and an ageing barrel; rooms from £125; the-distillery.london/agave-sessions).
