Having already produced an impressive ‘OO’ rendition of the Class 45 and 46, Heljan has now turned its attention to the all-original ‘Peaks’, the Class 44s.
The ten Pilot Scheme locomotives were among BR’s first big diesels and each was named after famous hills and mountains in England, Wales and Scotland.
Heljan will, for the first time, cover all of the major Class 44 variations, including the experimental American-style grilles carried by D9/D10. While making use of elements of the Class 45 chassis, the ‘44’ will feature an all-new body tooling with bespoke bogie and underframe parts, plus detailed cabs and boiler-fittedand non-boiler-fitted examples. A 21-pin DCC interface and pre-fitted speakers are specified, while DCC sound-fitted versions will also be available.
