‘Christ, (who) descended to our lowly world…is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.’ Eph. 4:9-10
How Many Stars?
As a boy, lying on my bed, fascinated by the stars I see through the window, I wonder which the furthest star is and what lies beyond it? Astronomers estimate that there are 100 thousand million stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way and that there are millions upon millions of other galaxies. There are more stars than grains of sand on planet Earth. But yet more, any light coming from beyond the visible universe has not had enough time since the ‘Big Bang’ to reach us. And as the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, we will never, ever be able to see what lies beyond our visible universe. Even the most powerful science can’t reveal what lies beyond the boundaries of time and space. So do we long to know the beating heart at the centre of the universe, that love which fills the whole universe?
