Three newly-elected councillors, including the newly-selected leader of Argyll and and Bute Council, Aileen Morton, are standing as candidates in the general election. The news generated considerable comment.
Suzy Anderson posted: ‘so the leader of the council is so committed to the role that she managed to grab for herself, she’s standing in the general election… I see…’
Laura Cook lamented: ‘It just feels like they are using us as a practice run. We are not guinea pigs!!! I would like councillors not politicians, councillors who care and have a vested interest in the communities in which they live and are elected. I am wholly disappointed and disheartened to have read about parties forming coalitions to keep others out. Surely all councillors should work together towards a common goal.’
