ORGANISERS have thanked everyone who competed and helped to make the 33rd Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival a success, bringing 3,000 visitors to Oban last weekend.
The three-day festival kicked off on Friday with the primary schools’ singing and recorder competitions in the Corran Halls. Adjudicator Martin Wilson thanked pupils and teachers for all their hard work, praising the inventive actions and colourful costumes. ‘Delightful is a word I’d use for you all,’ he said to the nursery and primary school children: ‘You all enjoyed performing, and we’ve all enjoyed watching you perform. The standard is so high, and long may it continue.’
The Accordion and Fiddle Masters on Friday evening in St John’s Cathedral was also well attended, when the audience was treated to tunes from the top players in their field. The fiddling was won by George Davidson from Tarves, the reigning Glenfiddich champion, and second was Mari Black from the USA. First in the accordion was Adin Graham from Fife, and second Emma Dickson from West Linton.
