Modern Apprenticeships (MA) are an initiative from Skills Development Scotland (SDS) that provide a way to work, earn and learn at one ti me. They are essentially like any other job except you are also training and gaining practical work experience while working towards a SQA and industry recognised qualification.
Historically apprenticeships have mostly been in trades but now there are more than 80 types of apprenticeships available in hundreds of jobs, with currently 286 modern apprenticeships available across Scotland.
There are over 37,000 modern apprentices currently working, learning and earning in Scotland. In Argyll and Bute in the first quarter of 2017/17 period there were 56 MAs started.
