Mark Ormrod MBE is no stranger to adversity. After losing both his legs and right arm after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2008, doctors told him that prosthetics weren’t an option and that he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Unsatisfied by this prognosis, he travelled to America, against the recommendations of his doctors, and spent three weeks being mentored by a fellow triple amputee.
That was the last time that Mark used his wheelchair. Since then, he has won medals at the Invictus Games, relearnt how to swim, run 5km for charity, and recently swam 1km in open water, raising over £450,000 for Reorg, a charity that teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to former service personnel suffering the after-effects of physical and psychological trauma.
