A soft touch

Feature Holly Reaney

Perfect blend

Wool has been a favourite carpet material for centuries. Natural, durable and soft underfoot, pure wool has many strengths, but blending it with a man-made fibre can further improve its abilities. An optimum mix of 80 per cent wool and 20 per cent nylon intensifies the rich mustard and teal colours in this Ben Pentreath Lattice Fletcher carpet, which is a reworking of an original 18th-century design. £111.20 per m2 at Amersham Designs.
