THE British government is certainly fuelling the AI exuberance. In last month’s budget, chancellor Rachel Reeves reminded the country how it was investing £2bn of taxpayers’ money “to build a modern compute ecosystem”. This is on top of concessions such as giving the AI industry priority access to electricity networks, an energy “pricing support mechanism” and, with the data centres often in investment zones or freeports, a host of tax breaks.
