MY PROG
DOMINIC SANDERSON
The great and good of progressive music give us a glimpse into their prog worlds. As told to Grant Moon.
Where’s home?
I currently reside in Liverpool, but I was born and bred in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
Peter Hammill: there can be only one!
What your earliest memory of prog music?
My mum and dad have exceptional taste in music. Dad is a massive prog fan, and I remember sitting in the school locker rooms listening to Dream Theater on repeat through my headphones –they were my gateway to prog rock. From there, I found the 70s acts that I’m more influenced by nowadays.
What’s the first prog album you bought?
I think it was Dream Theater’s Images And Words. At the time, it was like holding the Holy Grail, but I’m less interested in them, and prog metal, these days.
