Teach Early Years  |  Vol.13 No.1
"You’re so lucky; I’d love to be paid to play with babies all day!” As an early years practitioner, it can be hard to know how to respond to comments like these. Of course, it’s a privilege and a joy to spend all our working life in the company of little ones as they learn, laugh and grow; at the same time, though, there is so much more to the job than painting (p32) and mud kitchens (p19) – and when you take into account the sheer breadth and depth of knowledge required to support children’s development from 0-5, there are definitely questions to be answered about whether we, as a society, value those who take on the challenge anywhere near
enough. In this issue, then, I’m delighted to be able to shine a light on some truly exceptional professionals – including Ruth Coleman, leader of one of the country’s first Stronger Practice Hubs (p68), Mireille MacRaild, with her fascinating thoughts on curriculum design (p56), and Danielle Lilley, whose journey from unqualified nursery helper to manager of an outstanding setting is little short of inspirational (p30). As always, our aim is to share ideas and advice that will spark your creativity and feed your career progression – and don’t forget, you can find even more great content at teachearlyyears.com.
