Swiss violinist Edna Unseld, 13, has won the first prize at the Thomas and Evon Cooper International Competition in Oberlin, OH, US, receiving $20,000. The second prize of $10,000 went to Chinese violinist Julia Xiaozhuo Wang, 17, and the third prize of $5,000 to Chinese violinist Tiantian Lu, 15.

The Netherlands-based Animato Quartet has received the first prize at the Irene Steels-Wilsing Foundation Competition, receiving €12,000. The quartet comprises Norwegian violinist Inga Våga Gaustad, 26, Dutch violinist Tim Brackman, 31, Dutch violist Elisa Karen Tavenier, 28, and Dutch cellist Pieter de Koe, 30. The second prize of €6,000 went to the Viatores Quartet and the third prize of €4,000 to the Nerida Quartet.
