BERCOW'S OUTBURST: WAS THE SPEAKER OUT OF ORDER?
Donald Trump has been in his job for less than a month, said Patrick Kidd in The Times, but he “has already earned the right to join one of the most
esteemed, if not particularly exclusive, clubs in Westminster”. Members wear a badge showing three bumblebees, which is code for “Bollocked by Bercow”.
A badge should be on its way to Washington after John Bercow’s outburst this week: the Speaker of the Commons laid into the US president, saying he wouldn’t be welcome at Westminster during his state visit later this year, because of his racism, sexism and contempt for the judiciary. “An address by a foreign leader to both Houses of Parliament is not an automatic right, it is an earned honour,” declared Bercow. Parts of the Commons erupted in applause.
