The MPV needed a reset. A line in the sand. An offensive strategy to combat the dominance of the SUV. Offence: a commodity SUVs trade heavily in. But let’s not pick on an easy target. Let’s consider the demise of the MPV. The Renault Espace, the OG MPV, was radical, but little that came after had any ambition, imagination or innovation. And space alone was never enough for a class of car with such a singular purpose (oh, the irony of the Multi Purpose Vehicle title). So the class withered on the vine.
