Morello worked several jobs and managed to save enough to order a guitar from an LA custom shop. He hated the result, over time changing the neck, hardware, and electronics several times. Nothing satisfied him, and eventually he gave up, leaving the guitar with EMG pickups, an Ibanez Edge tremolo, and a copied Kramer neck. Because he disliked the guitar’s sound, he was forced to rely on his creativity, to devastating effect. Sometimes it’s not about the gear.
