If you’re anything like me your songwriting ideas probably arrive in fits and starts.Picture the scenario. You’re jamming with your guitar of an evening and you come up with a great riff in E and a cool chord sequence in C. You’re happy with both ideas, but they don’t sound like they could be part of the same song, so you mentally file them away, resolving to come back to them another time. Personally? It’s rare I return to these flashes of inspiration and craft them into a piece of music I’m proud of.
With that in mind, here in our guitarist’s guide we’ve made it our aim to help you harness those riffs, progressions and lead breaks, so that you can turn your inspired ideas into songs that you’ll play for years to come. We’ll take a look at what you need to get started, how to work with riffs, solos, chord progressions and key signatures, and we’ll run through some strategies for how to finally write that next masterpiece. Enjoy the journey!
