Confidence for transgender women isn’t just about the way you look, but it’s part of an essential mix; and facialfeminisation ranks high on the ‘wish list’ for anyone wanting to feel and look their best. But; there are big decisions to be made on how much to invest in treatments - both financially and physically - before you know what’s right for you. It often comes down to the question: Surgery or not?
Sam Marshall, a style and beauty expert with Born, the UK’s first transgender confidence-consultancy, interviews Julie Harrison who works to develop non-invasive feminisation treatments for transgender women. Here, we find out more about our options.
Sam Marshall: Why do people come to you to discuss alternatives to surgery?
Julie Harrison: “We all know that so many transgender women simply can’t afford costly feminisation surgery. Also, it’s perfectly natural to be hesitant about going under the knife. It isn’t the only option, and thankfully, with advances in nonsurgical solutions we can consider what the alternatives could be. At the same time, women with enough money to approach surgery often want to try things out first. Nonsurgical solutions let them see how things could look if they took the next step.”
