Julie and Shay
I had been in a heterosexual relationship for many years until I had a same-sex relationship in my late thirties, which I was in for a while, but only behind closed doors. It didn’t feel fair on my partner at the time, or right, so I ended the original relationship, although we still remain friends. I was single for a long while after. Then I met ‘Shay’ through work in 2008 - a female known as ‘Sal’ at the time. We spoke occasionally and I felt an attraction between us, but did not act on it, as ‘Sal’ was in a civil partnership at the time. Unbeknown to me though, the feeling was mutual. I left the company we were both working for, none the wiser, and did not see ‘Sal’ again until two years later in April 2011. Out of the blue, I received a ‘friend request’ via Facebook from ‘Sal’ saying “Hello, I found you through a mutual friend! & I believe I’m working in your neck of the woods”. My reply was; “You took your time!” We met up, and the feelings we had had two years prior, were still there. I had never looked at women in a sexual way, but with ‘Sal’ it wasn’t about that, it was about the person - male or female it did not matter to me anymore - it was the person!
