BRUCE Springsteen’s work has always held a sense of great narrative and theatre. His songs are marked by chronicle and character, while his performances have involved him baring his chest, downing pints, flinging himself into the crowd. Since his 2016 autobiography and his subsequent one-man show on Broadway, his sense of plot and structure has only grown more pronounced. One cannot now listen to his material or attend his shows without being reminded that there is a beginning, a middle, an end – not just to a three-hour set, but to a career, a life.
