Spoon’s Carpets: An Appreciation by Kit Caless is based on his popular blog http://wetherspoonscarpets.tumblr.com
Kit discovered that Wetherspoon’s 950-plus UK pubs all have a unique carpet, inspired either by the building or the name of the pub.
His blog poses the crucial question ‘are any two Wetherspoon carpets the same?’
More than fifty of Spoon’s carpets are featured, along with Kit’s text on the inspiration for each carpet’s design, the history of the pub and key facts and statistics about the branch and its regulars.
Rosemary Davidson, of Square Peg at Penguin Random House, who bought the book, said: ‘We knew we had to publish Kit’s brilliantly eccentric celebration of the Great British pub, craft and design immediately. The story of these unique Spoon’s carpets is marvellous – and the book will be designed and produced with care, attention and suitable trimmings: a fitting tribute to the carpets themselves.’
