Serial fiction returns for busy readers
Serialised (or serialized as he wrote it, being from over the Atlantic) fiction as practised in Victorian times by such literary giants as Charles Dickens, Leo Tolstoy and Joseph Conrad is making a rebound thanks to the iPhone, reported Michael Kozlowski, editor in chief for the Good e-Reader.
He said Apple was showcasing two new e-reading apps, The Pigeonhole and Serial Reader – ‘both deliver classic novels into bite sized snippets that are easy to digest and appeal to readers who only have a few minutes to read each day.’
Michael Kozlowski, who has been writing about electronic readers and technology for the last three years, added: ‘Not only are indie app developers getting involved in serializing (there’s another z) classic novels, but major publishers such as Simon & Schuster are also getting involved. A few months ago they developed a new iPhone app called Crave, that lets you subscribe to your favorite (no u, you know why) author and receive bite sized updates of new novels every 24 hours’.
