FLAMENCO GUITAR: SHOWDOWN
Flamenco music (in the UK at least) is quietly undergoing a cultural shift in the way it is appreciated. Many live music venues, such as Ronnie Scott’s in London, used to run flamenco dedicated evenings, but they seem to have dropped off the radar. Meanwhile there has been a huge interest in flamenco dance. At Sadler’s Wells they now run an annual flamenco dance festival. The London Guitar Centre even supplies flamenco shoes to the Royal Ballet School, as flamenco is now on the curriculum. So if you’re looking to try something new pick Flamenco Guitar Round-up up your pumps and head on down to dance school. But, perhaps of more interest to Acoustic readers is that while the flamenco evenings have been vanishing, the sales of the flamenco guitars have risen, particularly with people wanting to learn the fundamentals of solo playing. Now is the time to give flamenco a chance and try the most seductive and mysterious of art forms.
