Airports of the World  |   July/August 2018
This issue headlines with an in-depth examination of the nocturnal operations at East Midlands Airport in the UK, the country’s busiest hub for main deck air freight.
Next up is a review of the developments taking place at Salt Lake City International in Utah, which is in the middle of a major upgrade that will result in the demolition of its two existing terminals and construction of a consolidated facility to replace them both.
Then, if you have never considered taking a break in Lithuania perhaps the miles of sandy beaches at Palanga will change your mind. The climate is surprisingly pleasant during the summer and its small but efficient airport is connected to the rest of the world by airlines including airBaltic, Ryanair, SAS Scandinavian and Wizz Air.
If Lithuania isn’t quite your thing, then maybe Canada is. Victoria Inner Harbour is a fascinating place to watch the floatplanes come and go, and its new terminal has made travel to Vancouver Islands a pleasant experience.
Moving back closer to Airports of the World‘s home, we chart the varied history of one of Northern Ireland’s airports – City of Derry. Looking back in time, one of the most revered airports in the world closed its doors forever on July 6, 1998 and our six-page photo feature on Kai Tak is an ideal way to mark the 20th anniversary of the last departure. Finally, we take a trip to Leeds Bradford to find out what it takes to overcome a fear of flying. We hope you enjoy reading this issue of Airports of the World as much as we enjoy compiling it.
