This flock of five sheep, Nouveaux Moutons, by the popular French designer François-Xavier Lalanne, will feature in Palm Beach Modern Auction’s two-session sale of around 500 lots on May 6 in Palm Beach.
The life-size ruminants, comprising a ewe, a ram and three lambs, were created in epoxy stone and patinated bronze in 1996-97 and have a stamp for the Landowski foundry where they were cast. With a provenance to two previous Miami owners – the Dorothy Blau Gallery and Wolfgang Roth & Partners Fine Arts – they are estimated at $600,000-900,000.
